StolenSpace Gallery presents: Skull Huggery

Skull Huggery is a celebration of the skull — an image both timeless and ever-evolving. Throughout history, skulls have served as powerful reminders of mortality, symbols that compel us to face the impermanence of life. This exhibition traces the artistic journey of the skull from its classical origins to its modern-day transformations, reminding us that while the form may shift, its impact remains constant.

Opening on 31 October 2024, Skull Huggery features a dynamic lineup of international artists exploring the skull motif through painting, sculpture, and drawing. Some works draw on the somber legacy of memento mori and the medieval danse macabre, while others flip the narrative, presenting skulls in playful, vibrant, and even rebellious ways. From the spiritual traditions of Mexico’s Día de los Muertos to their bold presence in fashion and pop culture, skulls remain rich with meaning—both sacred and subversive.

Now available to view online (including 3D walkthrough), the show includes work by Adrien Conrad, Alexis Diaz, Amandine Urruty, Brian Williams, Buff Monster, Casey Gray, Dana Younger, Delphyne V, Deno, D*Face, Ejits, Ezra Brown, Haroshi, Jun Oson, Loro Verz, Mike Edwards, Nick Sheehy, Perspicere, Richard Berner, Simon Monk, Steeven Salvat, Sylvia Ji, Takahiro Komuro, Usugrow, and Vegan Flava.
